Back to TopWhat happens if the examiner cannot determine validity?By relying on a scan of the document, the examiner can determine the validity in better than 98% of the cases. There are certain security features that cannot be seen on a scan and in certain cases it would be necessary for the examiner to inspect the document in person. If this is the case, you will be advised of this fact via e-mail. There is no charge if the examiner is "inconclusive". Prosecutors and police departments who are in possession of the documents may elect to mail them to the examiner for verification. The examiner is a current law enforcement officer well-versed in evidence handling and chain of custody issues. The examiner will maintain the integrity of the item and will sign the chain of custody in these cases. The need to mail the document will be rare and will only be necessary in the case of a damaged sample or a very high quality counterfeit. Back to TopWhat happens if I need the examiner to testify at trial? It is our experience that 99.9% of these cases are resolved without a trial. After all, once the validity of the document has been determined there are few defenses to the offense of possession of a counterfeit ID. Nevertheless, we are prepared to assist you in this area as well. If the sworn affidavit is insufficient, we can provide testimony via close circuit television (via Internet) or appear in person. Costs associated with travel, lodging, per diem and testifying must be paid by the client; however, there is absolutely no additional witness fee charged. Back to Top |
